Technical Advisor – Regulatory


Wren Laboratories Ltd, the company behind the UK’s most recommended range of friendly bacteria supplements - OptiBac Probiotics, is searching for a Technical Advisor with experience in regulatory affairs in the food supplements area, to join our Technical team and help support the expansion of our fast-growing global business.

Pioneers of the probiotics supplement category, Optibac Probiotics has long been championing the gut health revolution, educating professionals and consumers on the benefits of friendly bacteria in maintaining overall health and wellbeing. 

Respected leaders in our home market and winners of the renowned Queen’s Award for Enterprise for international growth, it is essential that we can support our rapidly expanding business, especially in all aspects of regulatory affairs and compliance, particularly our export department. 

As the company grows, the scope of our collaborative Technical Team has expanded and taken on a much greater regulatory role. We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic candidate with Regulatory Affairs experience in food supplements (ideally probiotics), who will be responsible for supporting the export team with food supplement registrations, notifications, regulatory landscape reviews and guidance for Distributor Regulatory Compliance; as well as supporting the marketing team with some product related content and packaging. Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will form an integral part of this small but essential team.

Day-to-day responsibilities    

  • Understand the requirements of registration in various export markets
  • Oversee the submission and maintenance of food supplement notifications/registrations by communicating directly with Health Authorities or via consultants in a timely and efficient manner
  • And by ensuring that registrations/notifications are supported appropriately i.e. with correct documentation, are of quality and are filed in accordance with agreed upon business timelines
  • Liaising with our suppliers to attain the correct and most up to date documentation to support the above
  • Support Export/Marketing teams with packaging reviews to ensure compliance in various markets (health claims, nutritional claims, etc.)
  • Keep up to date with the changes affecting the regulatory environment and inform the impact of those changes to the direct reporting line
  • Support with the review of proposed formulations for existing products and new products (to ensure efficient launch execution in all possible countries)
  • Assist the Technical Team with other general tasks e.g. relating to NPD, clinical trial or competitor analysis
  • Nurture collaborative working relationships with external organisations e.g. HFMA/Clearcheck


  • Ideal candidates for this role will hold 2-3 years’ experience in an EMEA regulatory environment within the Food Supplements sector
  • Degree in Life Sciences or a related field OR Diploma, Advanced Diploma or relevant Degree in a complementary therapy
  • Fluency in English is essential

  • Good communication and professional attitude over email, telephone and face-to-face in meetings with external contacts
  • Ability to keep track of a number of different projects at once

Hours, location, salary

Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours) – Part time considered 
HQ (nr Andover, Hampshire) and home based
Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications
