It's January, we've all eaten way too much, our bellies are bulging and our bank accounts are leaner. Many of us are struggling with a phenomena known as post-Christmas bloat, which not only affects our waist lines, it can leave us feeling blue and lethargic too. Cutting back on common culprits such as sugar and alcohol is a great place to start to beat the January bloat, but The Telegraph has a few other recommendations from an expert panel of nutritionists.

Rebalancing the levels of good and bad bacteria in your stomach will not only boost your digestive system, but it will recharge your energy levels too. "Probiotics really do help to get rid of trapped wind and constipation, resulting in a flatter stomach," says nutritional therapist Petronella Ravenshear.
Along with this golden advice, The Telegraph also recommends swapping out root vegetables for vegetables that grow above ground. Root veg such as carrots and beetroot naturally contain more sugar, so try to avoid these whilst you're suffering with bloating.
