Your health comes first. The reason we make supplements in capsules or sachets is that we strongly believe this to be the best way to take your probiotics. Many yoghurt drinks with good bacteria have extremely high levels of sugar, which can cause all sorts of health issues. Light versions of these drinks often contain artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, a chemical believed by many to have toxic effects on the human body.
Our probiotic strains endure rigorous tests to ensure their survival through the stomach acidity and biliary salts, as well as to ensure their ability to adhere to the epithelial cells in the gut wall lining. These factors are absolutely vital in a trustworthy probiotic.
The bottles we use (CSP vials) are specifically manufactured for healthcare supplements, and provide the most stable solution available to us for (as bacteria, in its nature can be delicate.) The CSP vials have a desiccant built in to the inner walls of the bottle, meaning a greater surface area is covered than with a typical desiccant. These vials provide a more stable storage method for the microorganisms when compared to most plastic, or even foil packaging available. In addition they pass all of our quality standards including having a very low Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate (MVTR). The products which are more sensitive to oxygen (those containing Saccharomyces boulardii) furthermore have an added oxygen scavenger.
Last but certainly not least, we appreciate that different people take supplements for different reasons. So if you are looking for gut health support and your partner is looking for vaginal health support, we can offer each of you a specific combination of friendly bacteria strains.
At OptiBac Probiotics we strive to use the minimum amount of packaging possible. When rebranding from DTECTA Probiotics we discontinued our use of the outer trays that covered our products, replacing them for a much smaller paper sleeve. We have also increased the potency and reduced the number of capsules in 'For travelling abroad', allowing us to reduce the number of blister packs per product by 30%. In less than nine months this saved the production of over 5,000 blister packs – enough to cover an area of 2.5km2!
We make a concerted effort to avoid unnecessary layers in our packaging. The powdered products, 'One week flat', 'For babies & children' and 'Bifidobacteria & fibre', do come in separate sachets for each day’s use in the interest of guaranteeing the viability of the bacteria, which we consider a key factor in the quality of these products.
The entire range is shelf-stable meaning more convenience for you, as well as no need to refrigerate and hence less energy consumption.
Not only do we consider the environment in our outwardly visible efforts, but the environment is always on our minds in the heart of the OptiBac head office. It may seem small, but we all encourage each other to reuse and recycle our paper, turn off unused lights and computers, and boil no more water than necessary for the morning round of tea.
We understand the responsibility of a company to fully disclose all of the ingredients used in each product. We have a policy of absolute transparency when it comes to informing retailers and consumers what ingredients make up each product, so that each customer can make an informed decision according to their personal needs. To access detailed information on the nature of our products, please see the relevant product page, this full ingredients, or contact us.
We care about the wellbeing, comfort and happiness of our team. Daily meetings at the Head Office ensure that communication is rife between all levels of the OptiBac family, constantly reminding employees of our mission and ethos, as well as engaging all staff in ethically responsible thinking.
We also strive to support our surrounding community. Wren Laboratories gives annual donations to Shine Charity, the association for Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus, the UK's leading registered charity providing information and advice about spina bifida and hydrocephalus.
Since 2011 we have donated 1% of our turnover each year to the Aga Khan University Hospital's Patient Welfare Programme in Kenya. The Patient Welfare Programme, a project run by the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, provides assistance to patients who would otherwise be unable to afford medical care - regardless of gender, faith or ethnic origin.
We also regularly contribute to the Whole Planet Foundation who works to empower individuals in 40 countries (and growing) around the world.
In September 2014 OptiBac launched a partnership with the international women's rights charity, Womankind Worldwide, with donations being made to the charity for every pack sold of our supplement 'For women'.
Finally, over the years we've been delighted to take part in charity events like the Macmillan Cancer Coffee Morning and Christmas Jumper Day to help raise money for Save the Children.
And last but certainly not least, one of our core values is to deliver value to you. As the probiotics industry is still relatively young, many products on the market are high in cost. As a young, UK-based company we do all that we can to minimise costs and to keep our products at a fair price, without compromising the quality of the supplements.
