Can I open the capsule if I can’t swallow it?

Accepted Answer

It is perfectly fine to open your Optibac live cultures capsules, if you would prefer to administer the contents directly into the mouth or to mix them into cool, non-acidic food and drink. This does not affect the viability of the friendly bacteria.

Can I take more than one Optibac?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can take two or more Optibac products at the same time. Many of our customers take both Every Day EXTRA and Saccharomyces Boulardii, a friendly yeast, on a regular basis. Another common combination is For Women and one of our dailies such as Every Day.

Can Optibac Probiotics supplements be used to make homemade yoghurt or fermented juices?

Our supplements have not been tested as starter cultures for yoghurt or other fermented foods and drinks. We therefore cannot recommend using them in this way.

How can I give kids their Optibac supplements?

Accepted Answer

Optibac supplements for babies and children can be given in several easy ways: Baby Drops can be placed on a clean finger, nipple, spoon, or added to milk or formula. For older children, the powder from Babies & Children sachets can be mixed into cool, non-acidic foods like mashed banana or avocado, or even water using a syringe. Children over 3 can enjoy a Kids Gummies straight from the pack - just one per day, and always kept out of reach!

How should I store my Optibac supplements?

Accepted Answer

We select only the most robust strains to use in our friendly bacteria supplements. For maximum potency we do recommend keeping some of our supplements in the fridge after opening. This applies to Every Day, Every Day EXTRA, Every Day MAX, For Women, and Pregnancy. We also recommend refrigerating Baby Drops if you plan to administer them directly into your baby's mouth using the dropper, for hygiene purposes

How do I take Optibac capsules?

Accepted Answer

You can swallow the capsule with a small amount of water, preferably at breakfast. If you dislike swallowing capsules, you can open them and sprinkle the contents in water or mix with cool, non acidic food, such as yoghurt.

How long after hot food or drinks can I take my friendly bacteria?

Accepted Answer

There is no need to leave a gap between taking your Optibac supplement and eating or drinking something hot. However, we recommend that capsules are swallowed with a cool drink or mixed into cool food or drinks.

I don’t eat breakfast – when should I take my friendly bacteria?

Accepted Answer

If you don't eat breakfast, simply take your Optibac with your first meal of the day.

Can I combine your products with another Vitamin D supplement?

Accepted Answer

Yes, our products have been formulated to be taken alongside multivitamins. Many of our customers take more than one supplement on a daily basis. For Vitamin D, the European Food Safety Authority recommends a safe upper limit of 4,000 International units (IU) per day for adults, children aged 11-17 years, and pregnant/breastfeeding women.

Can I take other supplements alongside Optibac?

Yes, you can take other natural supplements, such as multivitamins, natural anti-bacterials and anti-fungals, and cranberry supplements, alongside Optibac products.

Can I take your products with prescription medications?

Accepted Answer

Our friendly bacteria supplements can be taken alongside most other supplements and prescription medications (those with serious medical conditions should consult a doctor before use). For example, Women's Wellbeing and For Women can both be taken alongside HRT and oral contraceptives, and Saccharomyces boulardii can be with anti-fungal supplements (2 hours apart).

Can I take more than one capsule per day?

Accepted Answer

With some Optibac supplements you can take 1 capsule a day, increasing to 2 capsules a day if desired, or professionally directed. Saccharomyces boulardii may be increased to up to 4 capsules daily as desired, depending on severity of symptoms. For our gummy supplements, Kids Gummies and Gut Health Gummies, we recommend taking 1 gummy a day. Always check instructions on the product label or our website product pages.

Can you freeze live cultures?

Accepted Answer

We don't recommend freezing our capsule supplements, because the capsules themselves might become damaged during this process. However, the live cultures contents can be frozen if desired. Friendly bacteria themselves should be fine undergoing the process of freezing, however for the Optibac range we would not recommend freezing the capsules as there is a possibility that the capsules themselves could deteriorate during the freezing & defrosting period. So from our range, it's fine to freeze the products which come in powdered sachets (Babies & Children, One Week Flat, and Bifido & Fibre), but we wouldn't recommend freezing the other products in the range. If you are wondering about freezing live cultures other than those in our range, the answer will probably depend on the quality of the live culture strain in question. Freezing yogurt drinks should not damage the live cultures - this process causes the bacteria to enter a dormant state, which is reversible when consumed. If you are in any doubt we would always recommend consulting your supplier directly.
