Cosmo Loves Optibac For Skin

It’s January and the one thing that appears to be on everyone’s mind, is kick-starting a health programme as we start this New Year. Healthy skin is so important when it comes to looking vibrant and simply great. And what is essential to healthy skin? Yup! A healthy gut. We are therefore chuffed that Optibac has been picked out by the authors of an article on skin health in February’s Cosmopolitan magazine, as a reliable probiotic.

Optibac Probiotics 'For every day' is recommended for great skin in Cosmopolitan

This is a fascinating article quoting several specialists in the area, about how too much of one type of food can affect the look of your skin on your face. The crux of the article really is that too much of even a good thing may not be beneficial, and to be balanced in your choice of nutrition.

For example, a diet very heavy in soya milk, which typically contains a lot of sugar, can lead to sugar molecules binding to protein in your skin causing wrinkles. A vegan diet on the other hand, despite having many health benefits, can leave you in danger of not having quite enough protein in your diet which your body needs to build skin and supporting muscles. Not only this, but an imbalanced diet can possibly fuel inflammation in the gut which may be damaging to the skin in the long run. As a nutritional therapist, I like the discussion that it is a balance of foods that matter.

Kate Roberts, a freelance dietician goes on to talk about how the balance of bacteria in your gut is important to combat inflammation levels:

‘Gut bacteria create a barrier to reduce inflammation which is at the heart of countless diseases, as well as the ageing process.’

Marie Drago, a Doctor of Pharmacy with over 15 years’ experience working for successful and innovative skincare brands including Gallinée says:

‘A gut full of healthy microbes modulates the immune system and so keeps every part of the body in balance’

The article recommends you take a ‘good probiotic supplement’ in order to help achieve this.

Note that the word balance pops up a lot. This is so true of many things in life and in fact vital when it comes to our body’s ecosystem. Skin is a reflection of our true state of physical health. Read Jacob’s blog on Optibac: The Nutritionist’s choice for Glowing Skin.
