Content Writer

We’re looking to hire an experienced and talented Content Writer to join our elite team of Optibac content creators. You’ll need to be a qualified health professional with a proven track record of writing and editing written content to the highest standards.

Candidate requirements

Essential:

Qualifications and experience:

  • A qualification (industry-recognised diploma, BSc, MSc, PhD) in a related field, such as Nutritional Therapy, Naturopathy, or Herbal Medicine. Applications also welcomed from those qualified in Medicine or Microbiology.
  • Proven content writing/editing experience

Attributes:

  • A natural flair for writing engaging content in a variety of styles, for use in blogs, technical documents, media quotations, and social media
  • Good attention to detail, and ability to follow detailed content briefs
  • Ability to edit the work of other writers, ensuring that they meet the content brief and comply with our content-writing guidelines
  • Excellent command of the English language, educated to at least GCSE-level (grade A-B) or above
  • Good computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office software
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Must enjoy working as part of a small, mutually supportive team striving to meet wider business goals
  • Driven, hard-working and self-motivated, but happy to follow instruction where required
  • Confidence to share expertise and regularly converse with a variety of audiences including medical, CAM practitioners, health food stores and other retailers, as well as direct to customers and social media audiences
  • A genuine belief in our vision to educate and empower people to make better health choices

Advantageous:

  • An understanding of search engine optimisation best practices
  • Knowledge of probiotics and the gut microbiome (though extensive training on the Optibac range will be given by our experienced trainers and microbiologists)
  • Genuine care and empathy for the concerns of customers; ability to develop a good rapport communicating either in writing or on the telephone

Main Purpose and Scope of the Job

The Content Writer is an experienced health professional with excellent creative writing skills, who performs well under deadlines and is detail orientated. The primary function of the role is to be responsible for creating, editing, and improving website content, in accordance with our brand personality and vision, to achieve our short- and long-term business goals.

The Content Writer will be able to produce well-researched, technically accurate, engaging content, for publication online and in print, to appeal to a variety of audiences including medical & CAM practitioners, health food stores and other retailers, customers, social media audiences etc.

They will also be required to check and edit the work of other writers, and support the Content Manager and Nutrition Team, providing cover for sickness, annual leave, and busy periods.

Duties and Key Responsibilities

Content writing/editing:

  • Complete writing projects which consistently meet content brief in terms of style, project specifications, and SEO strategies
  • Develop related content for multiple platforms, such as websites, email marketing, product descriptions, videos, blogs, social media
  • Provide PR quotes for media publications
  • Conduct research on any given topic and produce technically accurate work
  • Organise writing schedules to complete drafts of content or finished projects within agreed deadlines
  • Communicate and cooperate with the content writing team, content manager, editors, and web publishers to ensure timely delivery of content
  • Revise and edit existing content to optimise in respect of SEO and marketing campaigns
  • Utilise industry best practices and familiarity with our organisation's mission to inspire ideas and content
  • Become an Optibac brand ambassador, with exceptional knowledge of the gut microbiome and our range of products

Nutrition Team duties:

  • Ensure that our customers always feel well supported, well informed and empowered to make life changing health choices
  • Answer both incoming phone and email enquiries from customers looking for nutritional advice, and responding to these in a caring and informative way
  • Resolve customer complaints to the consumer’s complete satisfaction, recording feedback and attending to related administrative tasks
  • Moderate comments and reviews left on our website

General Responsibilities

  • Attend content meetings
  • Assist with editing other writers’ work
  • Assist with website edits
  • Assist with brief writing and provide cover for the Content Manager
  • Support the Nutrition Team
  • Attend occasional seminars and/or short courses in relevant fields such as customer care, telephone skills, content writing, presentation skills, product training etc.
  • Support with internal and external comms and events such as company presentations, surveys, PR & influencer events etc.
  • Contribute to the overall smooth running of the Marketing department

The interview process will consist of a telephone interview, initial interview, and second interview for final stage applicants. A spelling and grammar assessment along with a short writing assignment will be given to all shortlisted applicants during the interview process, and you may also be required to give a short presentation on a given topic.
